Prof. Tristan Ferry has received postgraduate specialty training in both Internal Medicine, and in Infectious and Tropical Disease. He wrote a medical thesis in 2005 and a doctoral thesis in 2007 (supervised by Prof. Jérôme Etienne), on toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus. He is affiliated with the International Centre for Infectiology Research (CIRI), working with the team of Prof. François Vandenesch. He spent one post-doctoral year at Geneva University Hospital, where he worked in the field of both HIV (Swiss HIV Cohort Study with Prof. Bernard Hirschel and Prof. Alexandra Calmy) and bone and joint infection due to Staphylococcus (with Prof. Daniel Lew and Dr. Ilker Uçkay).

He was appointed the post of Professor at the faculté de Médecine Lyon Est at L’Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 in 2014. He is Associate Dean for teaching Infectious Disease to medical students and is in charge of the “History of Medecine” module, during which he teaches the history of phage therapy. He is Vice-President research delegate of Collège des Universitaires des Maladies Infectieuses et Tropicales (CMIT); and a member of the Société de Pathologie Infectieuse de Langue Française (SPILF), the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), the European Bone and Joint Infection Society (EBJIS), the Société Française d’Histoire de la Médecine, and, since 2020, the Académie Nationale de Chirurgie. He has contributed to over 300 publications since 2002, has held dozens of oral presentations in national and international conferences, and has written various book chapters.

He practices in the Infectious Disease Department at the Croix-Rousse Hospital, which is part of HCL. He dedicates most of his research to bone and joint infections. Prof. T. Ferry has been coordinating care at CRIOAc Lyon and participating in the Lyon Bone and Joint Infection Study Group since September 2014. Since 2019, he has been the president of the National Scientific Committee of CRIOAc. Between 2018 and 2020, he was the director of the national research group SPILF/CMIT. Since 2019, he has been a member of the ESCMID Study Group for Implant-Associated Infections (ESGIAI).
